INTO THE STREETS LANDS TWO SCREENINGS, NABS TWO AWARDS
West Hollywood, CA. - "Into the Streets," the documentary written and produced by West Hollywood resident Jamie Kravitz about Los Angeles' historic AB101 demonstrations, will have its film festival world premiere in June at the San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, followed by three screenings in July at Outfest, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film and Video festival. The video also nabbed two awards at the SCAN/NATOA STAR Awards ceremony, held May 16 in Santa Monica, California, for the Social Documentary and Special Audience awards categories.
"Into the Streets" chronicles one of the most significant events in Los Angeles queer history: the 1991 AB101 demonstrations. The spontaneous, historic series of passionate marches and rallies protested the California governors veto of AB101, a modest gay-rights bill. The documentary was commissioned by the City of West Hollywood as part of their commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the marches.
Im totally jazzed and very gratified that Californias two biggest and most important gay film festivals have accepted the documentary for screening, says Kravitz. Its a real honor to be included in these events.
The world premiere of the documentary at a film festival is scheduled for Sunday, June 23 at 3pm at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, as part of the Instructions Enclosed program.
Following its premiere, "Into the Streets" heads south for three screenings at Outfest in Los Angeles, home of the events which the documentary chronicles, and of the filmmaker. Part of the "Global Queers in Action" program, show dates are Sunday, July 14 at 9:30pm; Thursday, July 18 at 7pm, and Saturday July 20 at Noon.
The STAR Awards are presented annually by SCAN/NATOA, the States of California and Nevada region of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, for excellence in municipal cable programming. "Into the Streets" took second place awards in the Social Documentary and Special Audiences categories.
