Ask Jon

by Jon Hull

Dear Jon,
What options do graduate students have over the summer?
Scholarly in San Jose

Dear Scholarly,
Unfortunately, there are no HFE classes being offered this summer.  If you find a class which might be interesting/useful, Dr. Freund has requested that you talk to him before registering.

Summer is a good time to get some work done on your thesis, as there are less (school related) distractions.  It is rumored that there may be a "Thesis Café" starting sometime this summer.  Basically, this would be a series of get-togethers where we can share thesis ideas and experience.  You can contact D'Anne Harp (dh27@hotmail.com) for more info.

Finally, summer is also a good time to rest your brain.  As always, keep an eye on the yahoo group list.  There are lots of opportunities to get together with your fellow students, and enjoy life.  Why not create a few opportunities yourself?

Thanks,
Jon

Dear Jon,
What would you tell potential new students wanting to know why they should choose to attend SJSU's HFE graduate program?
Curious in Cupertino

Dear Curious,
Well first, they get to hang out with us!  Let's face it, we are pretty cool.  Second, we have great teachers who give us both the academic and practical side of things.  Anyone who has taken a class from Dr. Andre knows just how useful his advice on client relations can be.  Third, our multi-department status gives us various perspectives to draw from.  Fourth, we have great activities and speakers.  Those students who were smart enough to attend our speaking events this year often had the option of having dinner with the speaker afterwards.  I highly recommend it, as that is where the truly interesting/useful stories are told.

Finally, and most importantly, anyone choosing to attend our program gets to ask me questions ;-)

Thanks,
Jon
