Jamie Kravitz Video Samples

I have worked in film and video in many capacities for most of my life. I have been a documentary film director and editor, a teacher/trainer, an advocate for community media, a pre-YouTube developer of streaming media on the web, a cameraman, a 3-camera studio director, and a passionate lover of the medium. Here are some excerpts of pieces I've worked on over the years. Click on the image to play the clips. You will need QuickTime to view them.

Into the Streets - Excerpt (4:53)

I was commissioned by the City of West Hollywood to produce this documentary commemorating the historic 1991 demonstrations protesting the California governor's veto of AB101, a gay rights protection bill. I wrote the script, conducted the interviews, supervised the video shoots, and edited it. The piece has been shown across the US in film festivals and received several cable television awards. Total runtime is 29 minutes. For more information, visit the online press kit (opens a new window).

Hearts Cracked Open - Excerpt (2:21)

I collaborated with Director Betsy Kalin on this hour-long documentary about 'Tantra for women who love women'. I was the editor and worked closely with Betsy to realize her vision. The film has been hugely popular in film festivals around the world. Reviews, screenings, and DVDs can be found at the film website (opens a new window).

Gaywired Marketing Clip (2:16)

This promotional clip was used at marketing events and conferences, and also as a team morale piece to bolster spirits while the dot-com crash was happening around us. As well as doing the editing and compositing, I shot most of the video footage that appears in the clip. At the time we were helping Showtime promote Queer as Folk, which is why there are a few brief clips from the show included.

Lesbios - Excerpt (0:21)

Lesbios was a short bio/documentary piece developed exclusively for web distribution, and this excerpt shows an animated sequence narrated by comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer. The animation was created in After Effects.

Logo Animations (0:14)

Created for GSociety while working for them as a Multimedia Producer, this brief sequence utilized After Effects for animating the logos.
